WHY IS THE GRASS GREEN?

One day, Alexi and Pexi were walking through a lush green meadow when Pexi asked, “Why is the grass green?” “That’s easy,” answered Alexi. “Grass and most other plants are green because they contain a pigment known as chlorophyll. The chlorophyll is used in the process of photosynthesis where plants produce sugar by using the light from the sun.” “Why do plants need sugar?” Pexi asked. “Plants use the sugar for their food,” Alexi said. “Umm, I like sugar. It would be fun to be a plant. I am ‘green’ with envy,” said Pexi. Alexi laughed at Pexi’s play on words. Copyright © 2009 MightyBook, Inc. All Rights Reserved
