BOY WHO CRIED WOLF, THE
Once upon a time, a shepherd boy was tending sheep. If a wolf came, the boy would cry, “Wolf!” Then all the people in the village would run to help.
The boy had little to do. He thought it would be fun to cry, “Wolf!” when there was no wolf. So the boy cried out, “Wolf!” and all the village people came running to help. But there was no wolf. The people in the village were angry at the boy’s lie.
The boy thought it was so much fun that he cried out again, “Wolf!” All the village people came running to help. But there was no wolf. The people in the village were angry at the boy’s lie.
Later, a real wolf came. The boy cried out, “Wolf!” But no one came to help, and the sheep all ran away.
Picture 2: Shepherd boy without his flock of sheep, his head held low in shame as the three villagers scold him for telling lies.
The boy wanted to know why no one came to help when he cried wolf. They told him that no one believes a liar even when he tells the truth.
