HONEY BEES AND BEARS
By Melody Keyes
Mommy said, “Your hair is getting shaggy. It is time for a haircut.”
The barber shop was very crowded. There was a television to watch while we waited, but
they were showing the news. I wanted to watch cartoons.
Finally, the barber said, “Next!” Then it was my turn to get into the barber chair.
“Pump, pump, pump,” went the chair as the barber raised it higher and higher. I liked going
high in the chair.
“Whee!” went my head when the barber spun the chair around so I could see myself in the
mirror. I liked spinning around in the chair.
“Buzz, buzz, buzz,” went the electric clippers.
“Snip, snip, snip,” went the scissors.
“Puff, puff, puff,” went the powder as the barber brushed my neck. I liked the smell of
“Whoosh,” went the chair as the barber let it down. The chair went down so fast. I liked how
it made my stomach squiggle.
“Thank you,” said the barber when mommy gave him money.
“Thank you,” I said when the barber gave me a lollipop.
Getting a haircut is fun. Waiting to get a haircut is not fun.
